This winter has been particularly hard on Massachusetts, with record breaking low temperature and snow fall, and on Michael and his father. Their electrical bill for the past three months has averaged over $600/month, including heating the house enough only for them not to freeze. They live in a very old home, and the home needs extensive repairs and weatherization improvements, in order for them to be able to reduce their monthly utility bills. They are currently over $1,800 behind on their electrical bill which includes heat and are fighting disconnection with this latest bill. Eugene and ‘Nina’ have spent more than four decades in this house and don’t want to lose it. Eugene cant afford a nursing home and his last wishes are to spend rest of his life in his home.

Michael is doing his best to take care of himself and his father. Like many of us, we usually put others first without thinking of our own health and well-being. Michael has been battling tumors and cancers, while caring for both his sick parent doing everything for them 24x7 with no help from anyone. After adding up all the expenses, this family needs around $54,000 between home repairs, past due medical debt, and enough to take of utilities and all basics for the last 3 months and next three months to compensate the higher than normal utility bills for the harsh winter.
