I have been DJing for almost 30 years now. I started when I was about 16, it was a fun hobby…..I got a tape player, and some turntables, and would just mess around djing at house parties for my friends, and birthday parties, etc.

Within the last 10 years, I have been volunteering my DJing, MCing events for absolutely free. I DJ many events for the Boy/Cub Scouts, In-town events such as “Pompton Day” which is held once a year in my town. I DJ events for the firehouse/police, I also DJ Recreation events in my town such as the holiday stroll, easter egg/Halloween hunts. I DJ school dances for elementary schools, middle schools, and high school events. I volunteer music, and MCing at sporting events in my town. I also do other parties for free if someone’s budget is tight. Below is a picture of a Boy Scout Soap Box Derby that i volunteered my DJ/MC time. I have many other pictures of other events, but this is just one that do every year, and it is always a great time!!!

Granted I do now and then get the paid gigs such as a sweet 16 party, or a country club 4th of July party, or my company holiday party (for my full time job, as djing is part time).

While DJing all of these events I always let the kids come on up and become my “DJ Assistants” I let them use my expensive dj equipment knowing that they will have the best time ever which is usually the case. I also let them sing on the microphone along with their favorite song they just played by using my dj controller.

This is not only enjoyable for the children, but the parents are thrilled that their child is being allowed to use “the dj’s stuff”. After each party, or event I have parents coming up to me stating how much fun they had watching their son or daughter become a dj for the night. The parents always tell me how I should start a business teaching dj classes to the kids…….

I gave it some thought, and I would like to start a “DJ Kids Class”. I would like to hold sessions a couple days a week with children who are interested in becoming dj’s, or just want to have fun with expensive technology they would not normally be able to use. I don’t want to charge for this either, I think that sharing the music, and experience of being a DJ is an awesome idea.

I would not just have the kids “DJ” but we would discuss music from it’s start… We will review different genre’s of music, and focus on the artists who made that genre popular. We will find out which music interests each one of them individually… how does music affect a person’s mood etc.

They will then learn how to use software, as well as hardware. How do they work together…..

I myself use a macbook Pro, Traktor, Serato, and Pioneer Controllers. I have all three of them at this time, as well as a couple of casio keyboards, and other older controllers such as the Akai APC20, and some older CD mixers (before pioneer became the standard)

I have started this fundme project, because for me to star
